Joint Capsules
2%, 5% and 10% change the capsule size for the same harpagoside dose.

Devil’s claw extract from the root of Harpagophytum procumbens is standardized to harpagoside, commonly 2%, 5% or 10%.
It is used in joint and back-comfort capsules. The root is the pharmacopoeial part; aerial powder will not carry this assay. Harpagoside is one iridoid, so “total iridoids” is a looser number.
When buying, write harpagoside percent by HPLC and the species. H. zeyheri is a known adulterant.

Bitter root. Check disintegration on the 2% grade because the dose is bulky.

Tea-cut aerial parts are not this extract.

2%, 5% and 10% harpagoside change the capsule size for the same marker dose.

Ask the COA to name Harpagophytum procumbens, not only “devil’s claw”.
