Product Description

Product Description

Berberine hydrochloride at about 98% is a single alkaloid salt, not a goldenseal powder and not a barberry ratio extract. Commercial berberine is produced from several Berberis and related barks, then crystallized.

It is used in glucose and lipid-style capsules at hundreds of milligrams. That dose is in the range where drug interactions matter, including with cyclosporine and some CYP substrates.

When buying, specify berberine HCl 98% by HPLC, residual solvents, and the botanical source if your file requires one.

FAQ

What berberine assay should we expect?
About 98% berberine hydrochloride.
Which plant is the berberine purified from?
Usually a Berberis bark that is then purified. Ask for the source if the spec names one.
Is this the same product as goldenseal powder?
No. Goldenseal is a whole extract. This is the isolated salt.
What assay should we expect?
About 98% berberine hydrochloride by HPLC.
Can a barberry tea powder replace it?
No. Tea and 4:1 extracts contain a small berberine percent plus other alkaloids.
What should the certificate show besides the assay?
HPLC identity at about 98% berberine HCl, residual solvents, and the botanical source if your file names one.
